Calling all knitters in need of a simple and quick gift! I got you covered.....
This is the Easy Knitted Poncho. If you can knit, you can make this. If you cannot knit, go HERE and check out these simple lessons on knitting. The wonderful thing about this poncho is that it only takes a few hours to knit and it is absolutely in fashion right now! They make wonderful gifts!
First you will need some chunky yarn and size 15 needles.
This is the yarn I chose for this poncho because it has wool in it and yet it is still soft. The colors are also very beautiful.
The yardage was 247 yards and I did not quite use the entire skein.
This entire poncho is knitted with a garter stitch. This means all you do is knit! Cast on 30 and then just knit, knit, knit. 30 cast on stitches should equal about 12 inches wide.
Keep knitting until you reach about 35 inches in length. You will have a nice rectangle. Mine was not crooked...this is a really bad picture, which explains why I am not a professional photographer:-) But hey! Those colors are sooo beautiful!
After you bind off, thread some yarn into this yarn needle.
Fold one side of the rectangle over like this.
Fold the other side to meet the first. This gives you the pointed corner when it hangs.
Sew the 2 sides together with the yarn. Weave in your ends and you are finished! SIMPLE!
Now you can make one for at least a few people on your list, right?
So what are you waiting for?
Have a groovy week!
This is beautiful...I've been looking for an easy poncho. I'm going to start on it tomorrow...thank you!
ReplyDeleteI am so happy you found a poncho to make! I would love to see a picture when you are finished! I made a few of these for gifts and the recipients all LOVED them
DeleteI've been looking everywhere for an easy poncho! I'm still in the beginning stages of knitting and the other sites were making my head spin. Starting on it tonight...Thank you!
ReplyDeleteI am glad this pattern will work for you. Yes, it's very beginner friendly and quick to knit!
DeleteVery nice! Thanks for sharing!
ReplyDeleteI love this pattern. I have a question though. The biggest pair of knitting needles I have are size 13, or 9mm. Do you think I can still work this pattern with this size needle if I add 15 stitches or so to compensate for the different size? I am new to knitting and unsure if this will work.
ReplyDeleteThank you again for posting this!
This one looks so easy!! I have to make an "ugly christmas sweater" and wanted to make a poncho because I figured it would be easier - well this pattern hits the nail on the head! i have to make one for a male friend of mine as well - i'll double the width & increase the length for him (he'll still look ridiculous)!
ReplyDeleteI just made this! Thank you!
ReplyDeleteWhat a great idea! I literally went through 240 torso/poncho category on Ravelry without finding a “simple” pointed poncho that didn’t require scads of yarn! I am using LB hue and me and the stout firm surface is perfect for the garment I wanted to achieve. This will be great to throw on and go walking or shopping. Love it! Thank You!
ReplyDeleteI am making something like this in crochet but using this shape
ReplyDeleteThis looks like the perfect project for a beginner like me. I do have a question. The first picture in blue only reaches just past her waist. The one you showed with red yarn is more the length I am looking for. Will the pattern make the longer one? Thanks
ReplyDeleteIt will all you have to do is knit it wider than 12 inches.
DeleteVery nice. I loom knit, and this is the pattern I use.
